Sector: ELECTRONICS

Project

Transformers are a critical and expensive component of power systems. Due to the long lead time for repair of and replacement of transformers, a major goal of transformer protection is limiting the damage to a faulted transformer. Some protection functions, such as over excitation protection and temperature-based protection may aid this goal by identifying operating conditions that may cause transformer failure.

Aim

The risk of Overheat and/or Fire conditions on Power Transformers and Generators remain high – even where regular maintenance programmes are operated and where shielding, grounding and lightning arrestor devices are installed. We were tasked with providing a solution for easy temperature checking.

Solution

One of the longest-established power companies in the world, providing an efficient and reliable electricity supply to its half a million customers, use Thermax Irreversible temperature labels on the outer tank casing of the transformer to enable easy and reliable temperature checks.
