FreezeSafe QR provides a simple, cost-effective way to verify that a shipment has not been exposed to freezing temperatures. The indicator responds to cumulative cold exposure over time and provides an immediate visual result, while QR scanning delivers automated cloud-based records without requiring a dedicated app. 

FreezeSafe QR senses the environmental temperature your shipment is exposed to. When temperatures drop below the stated activation threshold for a sufficient cumulative time, the indicator changes color — from light magenta to dark magenta, light blue to dark blue, or light grey to dark grey depending on the product. The recipient scans the QR code on the label with a smart phone, and real-time scan data — including condition status, time, date, and location — is sent to the SpotSee Cloud for shipper review. 

Yes. Once the FreezeSafe QR indicator changes color due to cold temperature exposure, the change is permanent. This provides a reliable and irreversible visual record of temperature excursion for quality control, compliance documentation, and customer communication. 

The color change depends on the product’s activation temperature threshold: 

• 0°C, 2°C, and 5°C products: Light Pink to Magenta 

• 10°C products: Light Blue to Dark Blue 

• 15°C products: Light Grey to Dark Grey 

If the circle on the label matches or is darker than the reference square, a temperature excursion has occurred (NOT OK). If the circle is lighter than the square, the shipment is OK. 

FreezeSafe QR is available in the following temperature threshold options: 0°C (32°F), 2°C (36°F), 5°C (41°F), 10°C (50°F), and 15°C (59°F). 

FreezeSafe QR accuracy depends on the product shelf life: 

• 1-Year products — 0°C, 2°C, 5°C: ±1°C (±2°F); 10°C, 15°C: ±2°C (±4°F) 

• 2-Year products — 0°C: +1°C / -2°C; 2°C: +1°C / -2°C; 5°C: +1°C / -2.5°C; 10°C, 15°C: ±2°C 

Activation times are based on the cumulative time required at the lower tolerance of the stated threshold for a full color change: 

• 0°C — 1-Year: Within 60 minutes; 2-Year: Within 120 minutes 

• 2°C — 1-Year: Within 90 minutes; 2-Year: Within 120 minutes 

• 5°C — Within 120 minutes (both 1-Year and 2-Year) 

• 10°C — Within 120 minutes (both 1-Year and 2-Year) 

• 15°C — Within 120 minutes (both 1-Year and 2-Year) 

FreezeSafe QR measures 1.22″ x 2.16″ (31mm x 55mm).
