What are Drug Test Temperature Strips?

BriteventBritevent is a disposable, self-adhesive urine specimen temperature verification thermometer manufactured by LCR Hallcrest. It is a continuous display liquid crystal thermometer label that adheres to the outside of a urine specimen collection cup and provides an instant, easy-to-read temperature display. Britevent uses proprietary formulations of liquid crystals that change color at designated temperatures, allowing healthcare professionals to quickly verify whether a urine sample falls within the expected temperature range for a freshly provided specimen. Britevent conforms to SAMHSA guidelines and is available in direct read or 2°F offset forms.

Brite DotBrite Dot is a high-volume, low-cost disposable specimen temperature verification thermometer manufactured by LCR Hallcrest. It is an adhesive-backed roll label designed for automated, high-throughput application to urine specimen collection cups. Like Britevent, Brite Dot uses liquid crystal technology to display temperature via a color-changing indicator — the green color indicates the correct temperature reading. Brite Dot is specifically engineered for roll-to-roll automated application, making it ideal for large-scale collection facilities and lab environments.

What is Britevent used for?

Britevent is used to verify the temperature of urine specimens at the time of collection to confirm sample integrity and authenticity. It is commonly used for:

  • Drug testing and specimen validity verification
  • Workplace and employment urine screening
  • Clinical and hospital specimen collection
  • Doctors’ offices and urgent care facilities
  • Compliance with SAMHSA drug testing guidelines

A fresh urine specimen should fall within the normal body temperature range. Britevent provides an immediate visual confirmation of specimen temperature, helping clinicians and collectors detect samples that may be substituted, adulterated, or outside the acceptable temperature window.

How does Britevent work?

Britevent uses a non-toxic mixture of liquid crystal esters sealed beneath a polyester covering film. When applied to the outside of a urine specimen cup, the liquid crystals respond to the temperature of the cup and change color accordingly. The green color indicates the correct temperature reading. If green is not visible, subtract 1°F from the highest lit event to determine the temperature.

How do I read Britevent?

Reading Britevent is simple:

  • Apply the label to the outside of the urine specimen cup.
  • Wait for the colors to stop changing.
  • Read the green color for the temperature — green indicates the correct reading.
  • If no green is visible, subtract 1°F from the highest lit event.
What temperature range does Britevent cover?

Britevent covers a standard range of 88°F to 102°F (32°C to 39°C), encompassing the expected temperature window for a freshly provided urine specimen. It is available in the following configurations:

  • Product 4030: °F range, 88–102°F
  • Product 4030B: °C range, 32–39°C
  • Product 4100: °F range, 90–100°F
  • Product 4486: °C range, 32–37°C

How accurate is Britevent?

Britevent is accurate to ±1°F / ±0.6°C.

What packaging options are available for Britevent?

Britevent is available in two packaging formats:

  • Sheets of 62 Kiss Cut labels (die cut to the top layer but not the backing)
  • Individual Split Back bags of 100 (easy to remove backing for quick application)
Is Britevent compliant with drug testing regulations?
