ShockWatch RFID: Passive RFID Tags to Track Assets
With the ShockWatch® RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag, it’s nearly impossible for items damaged by impacts to get past the supply chain. Simply choose the appropriate impact threshold and affix the ShockWatch RFID tag. Then, each time that a package or asset is remotely scanned by an RFID reader, its condition is entered automatically into the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software or warehouse management system. Actually seeing the indicator is not longer necessary as it is automatically registered in your system.
By combining traditional RFID inventory management with impact-damage monitoring, managers can use their existing ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID infrastructure to Deter, Detect, and Diagnose damage throughout the supply chain.
Linking RFID damage indications directly into your enterprise resource planning (ERP), with a one digit change to your existing RFID software, or warehousing applications has three benefits:
- It automatically identifies which products need inspections for damage and which are good to go.
- It assigns accountability. Because you know where damage occurred, you can fix any underlying problems.
- It automates reporting. Now you don’t need to rely on visually seeing an indicator. Simply scan the product into the ERP or warehouse management system, and it simultaneously reports any g-force threshold events. Thousands of packages can be read and evaluated for damage in seconds.
Monitoring packages in transit or storage with SpotSee is good business. It can reduce damage by 40-60%. Less damage means fewer repairs or replacements, fewer delays, less operations disruptions, fewer claims filings, and a better reputation. It is a proactive tool to help your business spend less time remediating negative events.
ShockWatch RFID tags are field armable, tamperproof, and turn red when an impact beyond a specific g-force threshold has occurred. Because they can be read remotely, they do not require line of site, and therefore can be placed inside a box, crate, or package.

Passive RFID Tags Unite Logistics and Impact Tracking
Impact-monitoring RFID (radio frequency identification) tags are the backbone of smart, 21st century inventory and logistics management systems. No longer dependent on manual scans or visual checks, these passive RFID tags are IoT devices that scan the condition of items each time the RFID label passes an RFID scanner.
Consequently, each time a package is moved among carriers, distribution centers, and the final destination – no matter how long your supply chain – the ShockWatch® RFID tag files a record in local ERP or RFID inventory system. If any impacts occurred beyond the threshold you selected, the impact is noted.
Deter, Detect, and Diagnose Damage with RFID Tracking to Optimize Your Logistics
As a manufacturer, you know whether you can place a part into inventory immediately or whether it should be inspected for damage thanks to a passive scan of the RFID label. Installers, when they pull the part from inventory, can determine whether it was damaged or cleared for use, also. Since not all damage is readily apparent, RFID tracking helps you detect hidden damage proactively, before it can create problems in the products you sell. The result is more reliable products, less warranty work, and better fiscal utilization.
As a distributor, an RFID supply chain helps you detect the potential for damage in real time. With this insight, you can divert products mid-shipment for inspection and can re-ship critical replacement items to your clients quickly, without waiting for the initial shipment to reach them. This level of customer service goes a long way towards building the strong relationships that keep your customers coming back.
Easily Setup Passive RFID Tags for Damage Detection
ShockWatch RFID tags are easy to add to existing RFID inventory systems or enterprise resource planning systems because they can be read by any UHF RFID reader. These RFID tags take a “belt and suspenders” approach to damage reporting. In addition to automatically entering threshold events in the resource management system, they also turn red as a visible signal that the package should be checked for damage.
ShockWatch RFID companion labels provide additional reassurance. When ShockWatch® RFID tags are affixed to the ShockWatch RFID companion labels, clear instructions tell cargo handlers exactly what to do if damage is suspected.
Smart supply chain management systems now and in the future, depend on data. ShockWatch RFID tags provide that data in an automated, effective way to manage and mitigate damage in your supply chain before it radiates out to customers.
